Speech by Tamizh Desiya Periyakkam Leader Mr. P. Maniyarasan at the World Tamil Organisation Meet in North America.

North America – July 2025
The global Tamil community today stands at a crossroads of identity, security, and survival. With their language, culture, and history under threat in multiple regions, Tamil identity is facing a slow erosion. These were the powerful themes raised by Mr. P. Maniyarasan, leader of the Tamizh Desiya Periyakkam (Tamil Nationalist Movement), in a passionate speech titled “Tamils in an Unsafe Situation!”, delivered at the World Tamil Organisation conference held in North America.
The address struck a deep emotional chord with the global Tamil diaspora in attendance, sounding both a warning and a call to action.
✦. Key Themes of the Speech
✧. Global Tamils – A Nation Under Threat
Mr. Maniyarasan warned that the Tamil people, no matter where they live, are slowly losing their identity and sense of security.
> “Tamils may live across the globe, but our language, our culture, and our political dreams are vulnerable. Protecting Tamil identity is everyone’s collective duty,” he declared.
He emphasized that even diaspora communities are facing cultural dilution and political irrelevance in their adopted homelands.
✧. Tamil Homeland – More than Geography
He reinforced the idea that “For Tamils across the globe, there is only one homeland – Tamil Nadu.” But he added that this idea of homeland must also include Eelam Tamils and the Tamil-speaking populations of Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius, Canada, and elsewhere.
The unity of Tamils, both in the homeland and abroad, is vital for the cultural and political survival of the Tamil nation.
✧. Need for a Politically Conscious New Generation
The leader expressed concern over the youth losing touch with Tamil heritage due to assimilation into other cultures.
> “Our youth must reconnect with Tamil roots—not just in language but in political purpose,” he said.
Without conscious effort, Tamil identity may be reduced to folklore rather than lived reality.
✦. A Call for Unity and Action
In the closing part of his speech, Mr. Maniyarasan raised his voice with urgency:
> “Tamils are still asleep. A few of us are awake in this storm—but we must awaken the rest. The voice of global Tamils must roar as one. Let us rise for the protection of Tamil identity—with political clarity and commitment!”
✦. A New Roadmap for Global Tamils
The core message of the speech was clear: Tamil safety and identity will not be gifted—it must be protected through unity, activism, and responsibility. The speech emphasized that Tamils cannot wait for outside forces to rescue them; they must organize globally and act together.
✦. Proposed Actions for Tamils Worldwide
Support Political Movements in the Homeland: Especially those resisting cultural and linguistic domination.
Expand Tamil Language & Culture Programs: Establish Tamil schools, digital archives, and cultural festivals across the globe.
Engage the Youth: Through Tamil history camps, cultural immersion programs, social media outreach, and internships in Tamil institutions.
Global Legal & Human Rights Campaigns: To fight for justice for Eelam Tamils and protect Tamil rights globally.
✦. Conclusion: A Speech of Warning—and Awakening
This was not just a speech of sorrow—it was one of determination and vision.
The phrase “Tamils in an Unsafe Situation!” is not merely a lament. It is a call to arms for global unity, a wake-up cry for a people too often ignored or fragmented.
> If we do not act now, the next generation of Tamils may grow up without land, language, or legacy. The future of the Tamil nation rests in the rise of global Tamil consciousness today.
