UK Travel Disrupted as Icy Weather Forces Widespread Flight Cancellations

Severe winter weather has caused major disruption across the UK’s aviation network, with more than 130 flight cancellations and over 1,500 delays reported at key airports including Heathrow, Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh. The cancellations follow a night of sub‑zero temperatures and persistent ice, which have created hazardous conditions on runways and surrounding transport routes.

Airports across the country are operating with reduced capacity as teams work to de‑ice aircraft and clear frozen surfaces. The disruption mirrors broader travel challenges nationwide, with rail and road networks also affected by the ongoing cold snap, according to national reports.

Passengers have been advised to check with their airlines before travelling and to allow extra time for journeys, as weather warnings for snow and ice remain in place across multiple regions.
