Ukraine Signals Openness to New Peace Talks as Kyiv Awaits US and Russian Response

Kyiv, Ukraine — March 15, 2026
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is prepared to take part in another round of peace negotiations aimed at ending the war with Russia, but emphasised that progress depends on the willingness of both Washington and Moscow to engage.

In remarks shared during a briefing in Kyiv, Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine has “never stepped away from diplomacy,” but added that meaningful talks require clear commitments from the United States and Russia. According to the president, Kyiv is waiting for signals that both countries are ready to participate in a structured dialogue.

Zelenskyy’s comments come at a time when international efforts to revive peace discussions have intensified. Several European governments have urged renewed diplomacy, arguing that the conflict’s humanitarian and economic consequences continue to deepen. Ukrainian officials say they remain open to mediated talks, provided that Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected.

The United States has previously stated that any negotiations must be led by Ukraine and based on terms acceptable to Kyiv. Russian officials, meanwhile, have repeated that they are open to talks but insist that their own security concerns must be addressed. Neither side has publicly confirmed participation in a new round of discussions.

Analysts note that the political landscape surrounding the conflict has shifted in recent months, with changing military conditions on the ground and growing pressure from international partners. Still, expectations for a breakthrough remain cautious.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine would continue coordinating with allies while preparing for the possibility of renewed talks. “We are ready,” he said, “but readiness must be shared by all parties involved.”

The comments were reported by Ukrainian media outlets covering the president’s briefing.
