LOS ANGELES, United States — March 20, 2026 — Chuck Norris, the American martial artist and action‑film star whose tough‑guy persona shaped decades of popular culture, has died at the age of 86, his family announced Friday.
Norris died Thursday morning, according to a statement shared on his official social media accounts. His family did not disclose the cause of death, requesting privacy while noting that he was surrounded by loved ones and “at peace” in his final moments.
The actor had recently been hospitalized following a medical emergency in Hawaii, where he maintained a longtime residence. Reports indicated he had been released and was in “good spirits” earlier in the week.
A Career That Defined a Genre
Born Carlos Ray Norris in 1940, he rose from martial arts champion to international film star, gaining early recognition after appearing opposite Bruce Lee in The Way of the Dragon (1972). His breakout roles in Missing in Action, The Delta Force, and other 1980s action films cemented his reputation as one of Hollywood’s most enduring action heroes.
From 1993 to 2001, Norris starred in the CBS series Walker, Texas Ranger, a show that became a global hit and remains one of his most recognizable roles.
In later years, he became a cultural phenomenon through the viral “Chuck Norris facts” — humorous exaggerations of his toughness that he often embraced with good humor.
Tributes From Across the Entertainment World
Tributes poured in from fellow actors, athletes, and public figures soon after the announcement.
Sylvester Stallone, who worked with Norris on The Expendables 2, called him “All American in every way” and praised his discipline and kindness.
Other admirers, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Donny Osmond, and Guy Fieri, shared memories of Norris’s generosity, mentorship, and influence on martial arts culture.
A Final Message of Strength
Just days before his death, Norris celebrated his 86th birthday by posting a video of himself training, joking, “I don’t age, I level up.” The post reflected the spirit that defined his public image — resilient, humorous, and unwaveringly energetic.
Family’s Statement
In their announcement, the Norris family described him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, emphasizing that beyond his fame, he lived with “faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved.” They expressed gratitude for the global outpouring of support and asked for privacy as they mourn.
