A tragic industrial accident at a major gas processing facility in Qatar has resulted in the deaths of 13 workers, authorities confirmed on Tuesday. Among the victims was an Indian national, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity.
According to preliminary reports from Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, the incident occurred during routine maintenance operations when a sudden equipment failure triggered an explosion within one of the plant’s processing units. Emergency response teams were deployed immediately, and the affected section of the facility has since been secured.
Officials stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blast, with early indications pointing to a possible mechanical malfunction. The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of their families.
The Indian Embassy in Doha has expressed condolences and is coordinating with Qatari authorities to assist, including the repatriation of the Indian worker’s remains.
